First Aid/CPR/AED

OSHA/workplace requirements. This is a blended learning course including an online portion and an instructor-led classroom skill session. The online portion must be completed prior to attending the in-class portion and must be taken on a PC or tablet with a high speed Internet connection. Once registered for the class, a link for the online course material will be emailed to you. Allow approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to complete the online portion. Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.

“Kickers” Karate

American Tae-Kwon-Do Karate for boys, girls, teens and adults is designed to teach participants self-defense, safety awareness and teamwork, while increasing flexibility. Students will focus on developing the basic fundamentals of kicking, punching, blocking and defense techniques. Participants should wear loose comfortable clothing and wear a mask. Hand Sanitizer will be available at the door. Equipment will be cleaned prior to and after use. Social distancing will be implemented.

“Tenicity" Tennis Program

We are excited to offer our youth tennis program in partnership with Tenicity, a program led by former NCAA National Champion and top junior development coach, Harsh Mankad. Tenicity specializes in developing players with strong fundamental technique and athletic skills for higher levels of play. The program strives to create a supportive, fun, and structured environment for all participants.  To learn more about Tenicity’s program, please visit www.tenicity.com.

Beginner Tennis Program:

Both new players and those with prior beginner lesson experience are invited to join Tenicity's group lessons for age groups 4-6, 7-10, and 11 and higher. Players will learn and improve their technique and athletic skills to create a strong foundation for further development in the game.

Join Harsh and the Tenicity Coaches at their FREE Kick-Off Event on Sunday, May 2nd Interested participants in the above mentioned age groups at the beginner level are invited to attend the event.

Water Safety Instructor Aid Program

The water safety instructor aid course is for youth ages 12 or older who have completed upper-level lesson skills. This program focuses on youth leadership, self-esteem, responsibility, problem-solving, communication, teamwork and early employment skills. 

The program fee includes free CPR/FA/AED certification, over 32 hours of assisting with lessons, and an instructor aid manual. In addition, participants will have over 4 hours of private or semi-private classroom training with a Lead Water Safety Instructor, where students will learn how to assist teach lessons, interact with parents and students, and keep participants safe in the water. 

After completion of the program, there is a consideration for employment. Volunteers must be 14, complete a minimum of 32 volunteer apprentice hours, and turn in completed teaching evaluations.

Make & Take Cooking Classes

Make & Take Cooking Classes are for ages 12 and up.  All materials and food are provided, along with step-by-step instructions and information to give participants the tools to cook each item on their own. Each participant will head home with a meal, treat, condiment, or other food item to enjoy later or gift to a loved one.  

Instructor Marilyn Hathaway RD is passionate about teaching others how to plan and make nutritious and delicious meals.  She believes everyone should have the opportunity to learn the lifelong skill of cooking. Marilyn received a Bachelor’s in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Minnesota and is a registered dietitian. She also holds two Master’s Degrees and has many years of experience working in management, healthcare, higher education, and human resources. Previously, Marilyn managed a division of ServiceMaster, a company that provides food services for large establishments including hospitals and senior centers. Some of her specialties include Norwegian Baking, canning and preserving, and cooking for various types of diet preferences.

Gymnastics

New Brighton Parks and Recreation offers gymnastics programs for ages 4-17 at Edgewood Middle School in Mounds View. Classes are open to all abilities, including teens at all levels. Beginners will learn basic moves on various apparatus, and experienced gymnastics will take their skills to the next level in a fun and pressure-free environment.
