Program Information

Goose Nesting Site Hotline 651-638-2163. The New Brighton Parks and Recreation Department is currently identifying pairs of resident geese that are nesting in the following areas: Brightwood Hills Golf Course, Hansen Park, Innsbruck Park Veterans Park, Long Lake Park and the pond at Lake Side Homes. If you are out walking in these areas and find a goose nest, please report the location by calling the hotline at 651-638-2163. New Brighton Parks and Recreation volunteers are using humane egg addling techniques to manage the wild goose population in New Brighton.

The City of New Brighton is working with residents to implement new ways to manage the wild goose population.  The City offers training to residents in February each year for those who have concerns about geese on their property, or who want to help control the population by focusing on nesting sites.  The training consists of a DVD from the United States Humane Society.  Topics include: the difference between resident and migratory geese, why there is an abundance of geese, mating and nesting habits, egg addling (oiling) procedures to manage the population, and other nonlethal methods that homeowners can use on their property to deter geese.  The training teaches how to search for nests and addle eggs during the early nesting season so the eggs do not hatch.  Volunteers are needed to continue this program and those trained are registered with the US Fish and Wildlife and DNR to assist the City with efforts on goose mitigation if they choose. Please click the link below to access the training online.

Disc Golf

In addition to being a great location for a group picnic, rental opportunity, or a walk through the woods, Hansen Park is also a great location to play disc golf. The 12 hole disc golf course is scattered through mature trees, has open spaces along with other areas more tight and wooded. The course is ideal for families, kids and adults. The course contains chain baskets and cone/saucer baskets, which are not seen on many courses, adding an entirely new challenge. Hole distances range from 145 feet to 358 feet. Discs specially designed for disc golf or any regular Frisbee can be used to play the game. Concrete tee pads, retaining walls and wood chipped features add to the enhancement of this course.

2018 Traffic Stop Data

During 2018, New Brighton police officers made more than 4,200 traffic stops.  In early 2017, the New Brighton Department of Public Safety (NBDPS) joined with other Ramsey County law enforcement agencies to begin voluntarily collecting traffic stop data.  New Brighton initiated this effort to increase transparency and provide more context to the limited amount of […]

Anti-Icing Strategies

Anti-icing liquid and brining are growing in popularity as a more efficient alternative to granular salt and sand. Anti-icing liquid can be used in much smaller quantities before a winter storm to prevent ice from forming on roads and sidewalks. As a result, snow is easily removed by plows or shovels, and fewer chlorides build […]
