The New Brighton Parks & Recreation aquatics program offers lessons for all ages and abilities, open & lap swim, special interests & events like water aerobics, Water Safety Instructor Training (WSI), Lifeguard Training (LGT), Employment Preparation – Water Safety Instructor Aide/Lifeguard Preparation Training (IA) and more. In addition you can rent exclusive pool time adding water toys and activities to make your pool party a splash!

Group Swimming Lessons

New Brighton Parks and Recreation offers American Red Cross Certified Swim Lessons and Aquatic Training in cooperation with Mounds View School District permitting, at Highview Middle School Pool. Our highly certified swim instructors and progressive swim format provide a supreme learning experience for swimmers. Get started today with one of the most important safety and healthy lifestyle skills.

Please Read Before Swim Lesson Registration

  • Refunds or transfers will not be honored on cancellations made outside our policy guidelines. Please refer to our refund policy.
  • Make-ups or special arrangements are not provided for missed lessons. 
  • Participants 5 years or older must use the appropriate gender locker room. 
  • Parents and visitors must remain in the observation area during class. 
  • If the pool is closed unexpectedly, you will be notified as soon as possible and alternatives will be provided. 
  • Participants may enter the pool area and be seated on the bench until called by the instructor. 
  • Participants should shower and use the bathroom before class. 

Swim Lesson Schedule & Registration

Semi-Private Lessons

Families with children at different levels may experience their lessons all at the same time with Semi-Private Lessons that provide smaller class sizes 4:1 for more individualized attention.

  • Register for any Semi-Private time and note your child’s level.  On the first day of lessons, participants will be broken up into groups based on ability and ages.
  • Semi-Private classes listed as “wait-listed” may still have availability depending on the level of your child.  For availability of “wait-listed” classes, call Maria at 651-638-2136 or add yourself to the wait-list and we will contact you.

Private and Specialized Instruction

New Brighton Aquatics offers private lessons for one-on-one individualized instruction to work on the specific skills you or your child want to learn.

  • Lessons are available to all ages and abilities, from those who have never been in the water to competitive or triathlon swimmers looking to improve.
  • Specialized Swim Instruction provides a safe and inclusive learning environment for students with mild disabilities.
  • Private Lessons are available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.  They are dependent upon instructor and pool availability.  Space is limited.
  • Before registering, contact Maria at 651-638-2136 to schedule and ensure availability.

Open/Lap Swim

New Brighton Parks and Recreation Aquatics has open and lap swim times at Highview Middle School Pool as well as options for annual pool passes and access to the pool through Health Wave Memberships.

  • Highview Middle School:  2300 7th St. NW, New Brighton, MN 55112.
  • Daily fees are collected at the pool.  Show a valid student ID for student rate and please bring small bills.
  • The pool will be closed when swim lessons are cancelled. Call the weather hotline at 651-638-2141 if there is questionable weather.
  • There is only one designated lane during lap swim times.
  • During open swim, children under age 7 must be accompanied by an adult in the water at arm’s reach.

Water Aerobics

New Brighton Parks and Recreation Aquatics offers Water Aerobics classes at Highview Middle School pool taught by engaging, enthusiastic, and experienced instructors.

  • Water Aerobics provides a great workout by using the resistance of water to increase cardiovascular endurance and strengthen muscles without putting extra pressure on joints.
  • Swimming is not a required skill to participate.
  • Drop-In fee is $10 per class, payable to the lifeguard at Highview Pool.
  • Water Aerobics classes are included in Health Wave Membership Plans at the New Brighton Community Center.

Splash Pool Party Rentals

Make a splash with your party with exclusive pool time at Highview Middle School pool!  Enjoy floatables, water games, and toys that will make your party unforgettable.

  • Lifeguards are included, but adult supervision is required.
  • Reservations must be made in advance with a $25 non-refundable deposit to secure your reservation.

Safety Training/ Employment Preparation

New Brighton Parks and Recreation offers safety training and certification classes through the American Red Cross.  Classes are held at Highview Middle School pool and the New Brighton Community Center.

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (ages 15+) courses provide certification for those who would like to be employed as a lifeguard.
  • Water Safety Instructor Training (ages 16+) and the New Brighton Instructor Aid Program (ages 12+) are awesome opportunities for those who would like to learn to teach American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes.
