New Brighton Parks and Recreation offers gymnastics programs for ages 4-17 at Edgewood Middle School in Mounds View. Classes are open to all abilities, including teens at all levels. Beginners will learn basic moves on various apparatus, and experienced gymnastics will take their skills to the next level in a fun and pressure-free environment.


Ice Skating Lessons

This instructional ice skating class is for youth ages 5-9.  Kids will meet at the outdoor rink at Freedom Park and have the opportunity to learn forward and backward skating, stops and starts, crossovers, spins, swizzles and glides.  Classes are filled with fun games and allow kids to learn at their own pace.  


Non-School Day Camps

School's out! Check out the non-school day programs we have planned for elementary-aged children in partnership with Spring Lake Park Recreation and Parks.


Kidcreate Studio Art Classes

Kidcreate studio's award-winning art classes allow kids to explore are in an environment full of giggles and grins. Kids create fridge-worthy masterpieces while learning art concepts and experimenting with different art materials Classes provide a fun, self-esteem-building atmosphere full of "I did it" moments. Cooking Classes

Make & Take Cooking Classes are for ages 12 and up. All materials and food are provided, along with step-by-step instructions and information to give participants the tools to cook each item on their own. Each participant will head home with a meal, treat, condiment, or other food item to enjoy later or gift to a loved one.

Marilyn Hathaway RD is passionate about teaching others how to plan and make nutritious and delicious meals. She believes everyone should have the opportunity to learn the lifelong skill of cooking. Marilyn received a Bachelor’s in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Minnesota and is a registered dietitian. She also holds two Master’s Degrees and has many years of experience working in management, healthcare, higher education, and human resources. Previously, Marilyn managed a division of ServiceMaster, a company that provides food services for large establishments including hospitals and senior centers. Some of her specialties include Norwegian Baking, canning and preserving, and cooking for various types of diet preferences. 


eSports Winter League

New Brighton Parks and Rec, along with Blaine, Fridley and Spring Lake Park, are excited to announce its partnership with GG Leagues to provide an eSports (virtual) league opportunity for youth and adults! Youth ages 8-12 and 13-18, and adults 18+ will have the opportunity to compete against their age category from the comfort of their home. Games offered include Rocket League (beginner and competitive, 1v1 and 3v3), Fortnite (solos and duos), Madden, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Participants must have a Playstation Plus, Xbox Live, Nintendo Online or a PC as well as the game they are competing in. Winter season occurs January 24 - March 18, and a winter season pass is $40 which will unlock all games offered during the season. 


Youth Sports
Basketball Skill-Builder Lessons

Youth in grades K-5 will improve their fundamental basketball skills while learning more about the game and having a blast! The lessons are designed so that each and every participant, whether a beginner or a veteran, will increase both his/her skill level and knowledge of basketball. Kids will work on dribbling, shooting, defense, rebounding, team concepts, and more.



These high-energy classes focus on improving rhythm, balance and coordination. Children will have fun learning basic tap, jazz and ballet steps. Older children will continue learning advanced steps, dance choreography and creative movement. Dancers should wear a facemask and clothing that is comfortable and easy to move in. All dancers will need tap and ballet shoes (which can be ordered through the instructors $16 for ballet and $24 for tap). Hand sanitizer will be available at the door. Dancers will be spaced 6 feet apart. 


Kicker's Karate

This American Tae-Kwon-Do Karate class for adults, teens and youth ages seven and up is designed to teach participants self-defense, safety awareness and teamwork while increasing flexibility. Students will focus on developing the basic fundamentals of kicking, punching, blocking and defense techniques. Please wear loose comfortable clothing. 


Martial Arts

This exciting class for ages 3-6 introduces basic self-defense and martial arts skills while developing coordination and flexibility. Basic kicks, punches and strikes will be taught through exercises and fun games. This program promotes focus, discipline and respect.


Soccer Skill-Builder Lessons

Preschool and Beginner:

A great introduction to the fun and exciting game of soccer! Youth ages 3-7 will develop coordination using large muscles and learn basic soccer skills, rules and strategies. This is a great camp for those kids just learning to play soccer or kids that need another season of skill development before registering for in-house leagues.


Experienced soccer players will work to enhance their overall fitness and coordination through drills, game play, and conditioning. Youth ages 8-11 will have a great opportunity to sharpen soccer skills and review soccer rules and strategies, while making new friends and having fun.


"Tenicity" Tennis Programs

Class Description: Learn the lifelong game of tennis in a fun, positive, and well-structured coaching program created by Tenicity. Players will develop strong fundamental skills for higher levels of play and be inspired by the learning environment. Both new beginners and those with prior beginner lesson experience are invited to join. Spots are limited.

Coaching Team: Tenicity's Tennis Program is led by former NCAA National Tennis Champion and top junior development coach, Harsh Mankad. Harsh has over 10 years of coaching experience and deep expertise in developing players, including to the Division 1 college level. His team of coaches comprises Varsity level coaches and players who are trained with the program's methods to provide a high standard of coaching. 


Volleyball Skills and Drills

BUMP, SET, SPIKE! This instructional skills class will teach participants the basic skills, rules, and strategies of the fun and exciting game of volleyball through drills and games. All players will receive a t-shirt. Knee Pads are required. This program will be held at the Mounds View Community Center.
