Canoe, Kayak, and SUP Paddling Camps

Learn to paddle at Long Lake! These classes, provided by Rice Creek Boat Club, teach youth ages 10-13 basic boating and paddling safety and techniques. Boats and paddles are provided. Participants need to bring a US Coast Guard approved Life Jacket, swim suit, towel, sunscreen, water bottle, and pullover to each class. Fridays will be a make-up day in case of inclement weather.

Want to paddle more? The Rice Creek Boat Club offers programs for youth ages 12-18 and adults all summer long. RCBC is a 501(c)3 dedicated to teaching safe and efficient paddling skills for both enjoyment and competition. Boats are provided - canoes, kayaks, and SUPs. RCBC operates out of the boathouse at Long Lake Beach in New Brighton. Find all of their program information and registration at PaddleRCBC.org.

Gymnastics

New Brighton Parks and Recreation offers gymnastics programs for ages 4-17 at Edgewood Middle School in Mounds View. Classes are open to all abilities, including teens at all levels. Beginners will learn basic moves on various apparatus, and experienced gymnastics will take their skills to the next level in a fun and pressure-free environment.

Painting in the Park

Join Wanda with Creative Painting Minnesota as she gives you step by step instructions for painting on wood or canvas. Take home your finished product for a great gift, home decoration or holiday memory. There are a variety of classes and projects available for ages 5-adult, and no experience is required. Bring your grandchild, come with a friend or make it a whole-family night of fun! All supplies are provided. Participants will social distance, and masks are required. Please bring a water bottle and a paint shirt.

Little Playground Stars (4 yrs-Kindergarten)

Where are all of our Little Playground Stars? Little Playground Stars is a version of the Playground Stars program designed for campers ages 4 to kindergarten. This supervised and structured program focuses on healthy lifestyles, socialization and expressing creativity through games and crafts. Each day will include new and exciting activities, and each site will have the same activities.  We will be outside each day, so please dress for the weather and to play.  Parents will be required to sign their camper in and out each day.  Each participant will receive one Little Playgrounds Stars T-Shirt for the summer (if registered prior to registration deadline).  Inclement weather information will be sent out by email, so please make sure to check your email before heading to your program.  No make-up days for cancelations due to weather.  Please bring a water bottle every day!  We will only accept one pod friend request per camper and both campers must request each other for it to be granted.  This program will run for 9 weeks and participants must be 4 years old by June 21. Register by May 9. 


Campers will be required to wear masks, socially distances when possible and will be placed in pods.  Little Playgrounds Stars will follow all State Guidelines to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

Playground Stars (Kindergarten-5th grade)

Join us each week at Playgrounds Stars where the summer fun never ends! Safety Camp

Safety camp here we come!  New Brighton Parks and Recreation and the New Brighton Public Safety Departments have joined forces along with local community agencies to make this a Safety Camp you will never forget.  3rd-5th graders will receive training on fire safety, home alone awareness, electrical safety, bullying and so much more!  Lunch and snacks will be provided.  All participants will receive a Safety Camp T-shirt and an award.  Inclement weather information will be sent out by email, so please make sure to check your email before heading to Safety Camp.  We will only accept one friend request per camper and both campers must request each other for it to be granted.  All information will be e-mailed out to participants one week prior to the start of camp.  Please bring a water bottle. Register by August 8.

Youth Sports
Volunteer Coaches Needed! We cannot run our baseball, soccer, and football leagues without our excellent volunteer coaches! Never coached before? Don’t sweat it! All the equipment and information you need to run a successful practice and game will be provided. Rules and team information will be distributed; practice and games are typically between 5:30pm-8:30pm.
Basketball Skill-Builder Lessons

Beginner
Ages 5-7 years
Youth in ages 5-7 will improve their fundamental basketball skills while learning more about the game and having a blast! The lessons are designed so that each and every participant, whether a beginner or a veteran, will increase both his/her skill level and knowledge of basketball. Kids will work on dribbling, shooting, defense, rebounding, team concepts, and more.


Intermediate
Ages 8-11 years

Dance

These high-energy classes focus on improving rhythm, balance and coordination. Children will have fun learning basic tap, jazz and ballet steps. Older children will continue learning advanced steps, dance choreography and creative movement. Dancers should wear a facemask and clothing that is comfortable and easy to move in. All dancers will need tap and ballet shoes (which can be ordered through the instructors $16 for ballet and $24 for tap). Hand sanitizer will be available at the door. Dancers will be spaced 6 feet apart.

Flag Football Skill-Builder Lessons

Beginner
Ages 5-8 years
Want to get your flag football skills ready for league play this fall? Come on out to our flag football training lessons, where children in grades K-3 will be introduced to football fundamentals through drills and games. Kids will work on passing, receiving, game tactics, teamwork, and more.

Intermediate
Ages 9-12 years
Wanting to get your flag football skills ready for league play this fall? Come on out to our flag football training lessons, where children in grades 3-5 will be introduced to football fundamentals through drills and games. Kids will work on passing, receiving, game tactics, teamwork, and more.

Football Leagues

Learn the fundamentals of football in a non-contact manner with other boys and girls grades K-6! Players will practice catching, punting, good sportsmanship, teamwork, and more. Games are run cooperatively with the Mounds View, Shoreview, and Arden Hills. Practices and games are held at various fields in New Brighton and surrounding cities. Registration fee includes a jersey and flags. Volunteer coaches are needed.

Kicker's Karate

American Tae-Kwon-Do Karate for boys, girls, teens and adults is designed to teach participants self-defense, safety awareness and teamwork, while increasing flexibility. Students will focus on developing the basic fundamentals of kicking, punching, blocking and defense techniques. Participants should wear loose comfortable clothing and wear a mask. Hand Sanitizer will be available at the door. Equipment will be cleaned prior to and after use. Social distancing will be implemented.

Martial Arts

This exciting class for ages 3-6 introduces basic self-defense and martial arts skills while developing coordination and flexibility. Basic kicks, punches and strikes will be taught through exercises and fun games. This program promotes focus, discipline and respect.

Soccer Skill-Builder Lessons

Preschool
Ages 3-4 years
A great introduction to the fun and exciting game of soccer! Youth ages 3-7 will develop coordination using large muscles and learn basic soccer skills, rules and strategies. This is a great camp for those kids just learning to play soccer or kids that need another season of skill development before registering for in-house leagues.

Beginner
Ages 5-7 years

Youth ages 8-11 will have a great opportunity to sharpen soccer skills and review soccer rules and strategies, while making new friends and having fun. Participants will be divided according to age and ability on the first day. Open to all skill levels.

Private Soccer Lessons

We offer personal instruction for players ages 8 and up who want to refine soccer skills or enter a more competitive level of play. Lesson times are pre-arranged to fit your schedule as well as instructor and field availability. Coach Kelli Reasoner holds a degree in Exercise Science and coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF-soccer governing body for the United States). She has played college soccer, semi-professionally in the USA and professionally overseas. The progressive session criteria includes foot skills, agility, speed, endurance, skills training, homework, and progress reports.

Summer T-Ball and Baseball Leagues

New Brighton Parks & Recreation T-Ball and Baseball programs are designed for boys and girls ages 3 to grade 4 to learn basic baseball or softball skills as well as teamwork, good sportsmanship, and more. The Tiny Sluggers league is a parent involved league. The Mini-Sluggers league is a learning based league designed to teach t-ball skills progressing to using a pitching machine. The Lil’ Sluggers and Sluggers league are transitional leagues from t-ball to baseball and will include use of both the pitching machine and coach’s pitch. All leagues participate with our partner cities of Arden Hills, Mounds View, and Shoreview. Practices and games are held at various fields in New Brighton and surrounding cities. Registration fee includes t-shirt and cap. Games are umpired by coaches. Volunteer coaches are needed.

"Tenicity" Tennis Programs

We are excited to offer our youth tennis program in partnership with Tenicity, a program led by former NCAA National Champion and top junior development coach, Harsh Mankad. Tenicity specializes in developing players with strong fundamental technique and athletic skills for higher levels of play. Beginner Tennis Program:

Both new players and those with prior beginner lesson experience are invited to join Tenicity's group lessons for age groups 4-6, 7-10, and 11 and higher. Players will learn and improve their technique and athletic skills to create a strong foundation for further development in the game.

Join Harsh and the Tenicity Coaches at their FREE Kick-Off Event on Sunday, May 2nd Interested participants in the above mentioned age groups at the beginner level are invited to attend the event.
