There are three Minnesota driver's licenses currently available: Standard, REAL, and Enhanced. Most Minnesota residents currently have a Standard driver's license, which is good until May 2023.
After May 2023, if you fly domestically within the U.S., you will need either a REAL DL, Enhanced DL, or a passport to board a plane. (You are not required to switch if you have no intentions of traveling via plane.)
For an additional $15, the Enhanced DL/ID will work as a dual-purpose card that serves as a DL/ID and as a passport card that can be used to travel to and return from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry. It can also be used to board aircraft for domestic travel, but cannot be used for international air travel.
Please pre-apply for a DL/ID before heading in.
