Squad Car By MuralThe New Brighton Department of Public Safety is an all-hazards agency dedicated to protecting, serving, and educating in partnership with the community. The New Brighton Public Safety Department oversees the police, fire, and emergency management functions of the City in a single department. Many staff of the Public Safety Department is cross-trained in a variety of service areas to ensure we provide the highest quality service in a timely and cost-effective manner.

The Police Division is an International Award-winning community policing organization whose services include 24-hour patrol, investigations, crime prevention, animal control, and school-based officers. These services are provided by a team of sworn officers and non-sworn personnel, including Volunteers in Public Safety, Police Reserve Officers, and Police Explorers.

Firefighters Running to a Burning CarThe Fire Division is an ISO Class 3 paid-on-call fire department that provides fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous materials services, and fire prevention services. These activities include recruitment, orientation, and training of a full complement of paid-on-call firefighters. The Division has a full-time Fire Marshal providing inspection of residential and commercial properties by enforcing State Fire Codes along with applying NFPA and life safety standards. The Fire Division participates in a regional hazardous materials response team providing services to approximately 120,000 people in Suburban Hennepin and Ramsey Counties.
