Short-Term Rentals
Are you interested in renting your property as a short-term rental?
Short-term rentals are properties rented for fourteen days or less which are oftentimes advertised on websites like Airbnb, VRBO, HomeAway, etc. If you would like to offer your property as a short-term rental, you must first obtain a short-term rental permit from the City of New Brighton.
Requirements:
- Designation of a "resident agent". A resident agent is one party who will be responsible for the unit while rented and can respond to issues within 30 miles regardless of the time of day.
- Documentation of renters. Should issues arise, the City or law enforcement may need contact information for your guests.
- General in-unit postings are required for your guests such as the resident agent's contact information, the home's street address, and notation of fire escape routes
- Compliance with local ordinances. All permit holders and their guests are required to adhere to all local ordinances to ensure the rental does not cause problems for your neighbors. Should an issue arise, the City will work with you on ways to address the problem(s) so they do not happen again. Should issues continue to arise, your permit would be immediately suspended and be subject to review by your City Council. You would be asked to appear at the next available City Council meeting, and Council would have the authority to reinstate, amend, or revoke your permit following a review of the matter with you.
