Learn proper fitness equipment techniques for a safe and effective workout appropriate for your goals.
For those ages 12-17 who want to take advantage of the Fitness Center’s track, cardio equipment, weight training machines and free weight area. The New Brighton Community Center requires you to take a one hour Youth Fitness Orientation for your health and safety before activating your fitness center access. This is a great opportunity to learn goal setting, cardio workouts, proper set up and form for safety in strength training. After the orientation is complete, you will have permission to use the workout equipment explained in the orientation including a brief introduction to free weight training, and leg press. Once completed, the trainer will alert Guest Services to grant membership access, indicated with a special wristband. Please note: Cable Crossover, Chin Dip, on request only, Smith Machine is not recommended. More extensive free weight training workshops or clinics may be purchased for continued in depth or personalized programs. After this orientation you will receive a 10% off discount to enroll in a health coach session, weight training workshop or one-on-one clinic within five days of the completion of the orientation.
Youth ages 12-17 will be educated on the types and amount of resistance training needed for health, including program strategy for optimizing long-term physical activity adaptations. According to the National Strength and Conditioning Association, A properly designed and supervised resistance training program is relatively safe for youth, can enhance muscular strength
and power, improve cardiovascular health, improve motor skill performance and may contribute to enhanced sports performance. A proper program can increase a young athlete’s resistance to sports related injuries, improve their psychosocial well-being, help promote and develop exercise habits early in life. It is recommended to use health coaching sessions in conjunction with weight training. After this workshop you will receive a 10% off discount to enroll in a health coach session or a one-on-one weight training clinic within five days of the completion of the workshop.
Youth ages 12-17 can build confidence about strength training technique in a session with a qualified personal trainer. Youth of all body types and sizes can learn to perform basic free weight resistance-training exercises that can be done in the gym or at home. After gaining a base of strength using machines, this clinic advances them to using free weights to develop improved coordination and muscular control. It is also an excellent way to begin challenging their balance and core strength, by strengthening their stability muscles.After this clinic you will receive a 10% off discount to enroll in a personal training service of choice within five days of the completion of the workshop.One-on-one at 45 minutes.
A body composition refers to the relative amount of body fat, lean weight and inches. This is a fabulous motivator and health maintenance tool.
Review your fitness orientation plan and equipment techniques to get you back on track for a six pack. Youth or adults can take advantage of this refresher course to remind, renew or just use the tools from a past orientation.
Have you noticed that your balance is not as good as it used to be? Have your knees gotten weaker and ache from arthritic pain or surgery? This is the session for you! Jeanne Minder will teach you 10-12 exercises to help remedy these issues and get you moving freely and strong again. These exercises can be done in the fitness center or at your home.
Youth or adults sign up with our trainers for a time that meets your schedule and you will be placed in groups with a Min. 2 Max. 5. No refunds or make up times allowed for missed sessions. Take advantage of a low rate and a supportive team atmosphere to learn goal setting, nutrition tips, cardio and strength machine set up, adjustments and complete a personal workout tracking card.
Free Fit Tip Days
Certified Personal Trainers take their place on the fitness floor at New Brighton Community Center to offer fitness tips, machine demos, and answer patron questions. You do not have to be a member, just drop into the Fitness Center and participate in a FREE Fit Tip time. At the completion, New Brighton Parks & Recreation offers participants 10% off any personal training service, group fitness class or annual membership purchase. Trainers will go over tips and skills to use the equipment to the fullest extent possible to keep an active, variety filled workout routine for a lifetime of health.
